LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear Members, Donors, and Friends,
Thank you for supporting the Trout Museum of Art. We are grateful to everyone in our community for a truly amazing 2021. We could not have imagined that we would be living through the second year of the pandemic. With the support of the Board of Directors, members, donors, foundations, government funding, and a dedicated staff, the Trout Museum of Art stayed financially sound in 2021.
In 2021, we mounted 13 exhibitions with 756 works of art by 216 artists, including our first international exhibition with guest curator, Tyanna Buie. This exhibit brought together over 60 contemporary artists exploring inclusion and diversity through art.
We hosted our first Artist in Residence exhibition profiling local artists Tyla Hilfreich and Cristian Andersson in our main gallery, with Kaukauna artist Lee Mothes on the second floor. In our third-floor galleries, Arleene Correa Valencia touched on themes of migration and human rights through her light-sensitive fiber works. We also refurbished walls in the GNC Gallery and expanded our exhibition space by adding new floating walls to the third-floor Shattuck Gallery and the Room with a View.
To provide art in public spaces, we launched a new Community Art Project series with four free projects that took place outside the museum throughout the year. And one of the biggest things that happened, in its 61st year, Art at the Park expanded to a two-day event with tens of thousands of visitors coming back to our annual, family-friendly art festival in City Park.
We couldn’t have made 2021 a success without you. Together we bring art and art making to the public and build creativity and joy in our community.
Yours most sincerely,
Christina S. Turner
