Tied Down

Andrea Cornett
Fond du Lac

These prints center around fear and anxiety. Specifically the anxiety and fear of settling for less in life, and the sense of personal destiny. They focus on mental health, dissociation, derealization and self consciousness. These pieces are a way to process the fear that the choices you make are laid out for you, that you are not fulfilling your personal destiny. Windows and other objects act as a proxy to express specific stages of anxiety. For example, the sense of being stuck and tied down. These pieces are meant to give the anxiety and fear a voice. Through color choice and mark making these themes are presented. The colors are muted to express the emotions being felt. The mark making acts as extra noise in the backgrounds, to express how overwhelming the dissociation can feel.
