Congressional Art Competition 2021
The limestone formation of Arch Rock on Mackinac Island is a beautiful sight formed by glaciers, but it isn’t going to stand for much longer. Predictions say that the arch will collapse in as few as 20 years from the elements slowly degrading it. I found this deeply interesting while visiting the structure, as I may be part of one of the last generations to see this historic site. It made me think about the temporary nature of our environment and that we should appreciate it even after it’s gone. In this way, I hope this painting can be a snapshot of Arch Rock and its simple beauty before it’s lost to time.
