Karen Hertz-Sumnicht
Artist Bio:
My artistic practice conveys my response to life in a visual journey. The art is inclusive of shape, line, texture, and color. These layers of cold wax and oil create a narrative of experiences and history. Mark-making across the surface is both mindful and meditative. I strive to bring in a contrast of quiet and calm, while remaining playful and spontaneous. My abstract painting explores recent experiences by including references to the figure, land, animals, and shelter. These themes float in and out of the layers. I eliminate clutter and chaos by adding and subtracting information to get to the core voice of the surface. I am an artist, wife, mother, owner of Avenue art & Co 40+ years, volunteer, friend and an avid advocate for the arts. I live in Sturgeon Bay, Wi on Lake Michigan.
