Jeff Zdrale
Artist Bio:
I’m a self-taught artist and art teacher. Lots of workshops are in my background and I hope I’ve benefitted from them. Starting with oil paints at age 12, I moved to acrylics, pen and ink, watercolor and most recently, water-mixable oils.
I alternate between oils and watercolors just as my three idols—Homer, Sargent and Hopper—did. The commissions I’ve done in other Trout TMAs have been done in both media.
Landscapes, often with architectural elements, are my favorite subjects. I’m partial to Italian scenes, the preliminary sketches of which I have done on site. Sky views, either at dawn or dusk are also scenes I love to paint.
My paintings are in the Hang Up Gallery in Neenah. I have been the Artist-in-Residence at the Appleton Public Library and have taught watercolor classes at Friendship Place in Neenah for 16 years.
As a retired public school educator, I love to teach. Fox Valley Literacy, the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass, the Trout Museum of Art Friendship Place and, last but not least, my church choir, have all been targets of my work.
