Ukrainian Pysanky Workshop & Fundraiser!

Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs) have become a symbol of peace in Ukraine and around the world. Legend has it that “the more people in the world who continue to teach and make pysanky, the less chance evil will prevail.” All proceeds from this workshop series will help offset the costs of transporting/shipping donated items from Wisconsin to Ukraine.

Discover the art and the process of pysanky. Participants will use a kistka (a beeswax-filled ancient tool warmed over a candle fire) to draw designs on real (empty/blown-out) eggs between bathing them in bright-colored dyes. Participants will learn about the history, meaning of the colors, and symbols of this Ukrainian art during the workshop. All tools are provided.

Check out TMA’s other adult & teen workshops or youth summer camps.

This hands-on Ukrainian Easter Egg event is a fundraiser for Chalice of Mercy, Wisconsin’s longest-serving 501(c)3 nonprofit providing aid to Ukraine.

Chalice of Mercy was founded in 2007 by Valentyna Pavsyukova, a Wisconsin woman born in Ukraine. The nonprofit has shipped over 200 tons of medical supplies worth more than $27 million, plus clothing, food, and other supplies to Ukraine’s hardest-hit areas since Russia’s full-scale war on Ukraine began. Valentyna established a distribution center in Zaporizhya, Ukraine, and is there now with her volunteers. This is where all the Chalice of Mercy shipments of donated items are processed and then distributed to local hospitals and to people in need.
