The Art is Her exhibition series celebrates women artists and champions their goal of achieving museum presence equal to men. TMA dedicates its atrium to a series of solo exhibitions by women artists and reminds visitors that equal representation has yet to be achieved in art today.
Kasey McCormick is an Oshkosh-based artist that recently relocated to Milwaukee. As an abstract expressionist she works primarily with charcoal, ink, graphite and chalk on mixed media surfaces and layered vellum paper. These mediums enable her to portray a tangible connection between chaotic internal dialogue and the early stages of physical decision making.
“For my Art Is Her exhibition, each piece centers around the small victories and self reflection after surviving domestic abuse. Healing is never linear. Sometimes the big healing moments start from a lot of small and and seemingly insignificant acts and internal conversations. Accumulated they became the base for the rediscovery of a new life after abuse.” – Kasey McCormick
