Jazz at the Trout presents Randal Harrison Hoecherl

October 17 6:30pm

Violinist/Vocalist Randal Harrison Hoecherl charms, challenges and inspires listeners of all ages. Critics have simultaneously declared him reminiscent of Niccolo` Paganini, Stephane Grappelli, Al Di Meal and Frank Zappa. His community has honored him with four Madison Area Music Awards for Best Blues Artist, Jazz Artist of the Year, Jazz Album of the Year, and Classical Artist of the Year, an EMMY nomination for composition, and serving as President of the Suzuki Association of Wisconsin. Performance credits include work with the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, Blue Note recording artists Ben Tucker and Dane Richeson, legendary drummer Sam Lay of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and “the funky drummer” himself Clyde Stubblefield. Randal’s compositions, arrangements, and performances appear in documentary film, television and over 100 artist recordings including works for Naxos and his own label StringFling Records.

While enjoying a career of composing, performing and recording, Randal has always shared what he has learned with young musicians. He was the founder and director of the East Side Talent Education Association of Madison (ESTEAM) and now travels the world to work with students and colleagues – sharing ideas on improvisation and an eclectic mix of violin studies. You can find him at places like the American Suzuki Institute and the Singapore International String Conference.

You can find Randal’s current projects at www.StringFling.com

Performance starts at 7:30 p.m., with opening performance at 6:30 p.m. by the Lawrence University Student Jazz Trio.
